How to Find Your Hashtags

When used correctly, hashtags can be an excellent tool to extend your reach, boost engagement, and attract more followers.

But I frequently find users guestimating their hashtag strategy.

The biggest mistake Instagram users make is tacking on overly saturated hashtags to their posts. Popular hashtags have millions of posts to filter through every day that will push your content to the bottom of the list.

It’s a waste of hashtag.

Instead of using the most popular hashtags, it is better to find and use hashtags that are smaller, more niche, and have an engaged audience relevant to your unique industry.

The problem is that it can be challenging to find this super unique, community-oriented hashtag.

However, here are tips to help discover your perfect set.

Check out what your competitors or industry leaders are using.

One of the best ways to find relevant hashtags is by following other, larger Instagram accounts that have a similar target audience as you. These influencers already have a defined audience, so you can learn a lot from them.

It’s also a smart move to find your competitors. These are other accounts with the same target audience and offer similar products or services. You may discover new hashtags to add to your catalog.

Find the hashtags your ideal client is following or using.

Do some snooping and find a few ideal clients. You can find the hashtags that they use on their posts, or you can look into their following list where you can find the hashtags they follow. Hashtags are relevant keywords that help us locate the content we are looking for. If a user is following a hashtag, it must be important to them.

Use the search tool.

There used to be this handy tool on the search bar that helped to find related hashtags. Unfortunately, that recently disappeared as the creators decided to make our lives like ten times harder. But I digress. However, you can still use the search bar to find similar hashtags. By typing in a keyword and selecting tags, you can find the top hashtags using this word. By scrolling down, you can find smaller sized tags perfect for using.

Using an industry hashtag in your post widens your reach to those in similar fields of work. Click these tags to be directed to the featured page. From there, you can click on posts and check out the other hashtags that the user has used. This is a great way to find new hashtags to use that are relevant to your industry and learn more about users’ interests.

Finding the perfect hashtags for your posts can be challenging. However, using the tips above, you will find the right hashtags that display your post to your ideal client and target audience. Doing so will extend your reach, boost your engagement, and attract more followers. Happy Hashtag Hunting!
